Job Description:
Job Summary
The full job description covers all associated skills, previous
experience, and any qualifications that applicants are expected to
have.
The individual will perform procedures in accordance with
departmental protocols and standards. They will operate MRI
scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency.
This equipment includes the scanner, post-processing
stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment,
patient transport, and patient monitoring equipment.
Essential Functions
Examine requests and verify orders for each assigned patient. Refer
and question orders to the Radiologist before performing exams.
Contact ordering provider when there are discrepancies.
Properly identify patients using two patient identifiers and assist
them while offering a brief explanation of the procedures. Prepare
patients for the procedure with a full explanation and document on
appropriate worksheets.
Interview patients for a complete medical history and review
in-patients, ER, and outpatients EMR's to obtain pertinent clinical
history. Record medical history on requisitions and correlate other
test results and laboratory data with the exam being performed.
Assume responsibility for the exam from the beginning until the
completion of dictated results. Prepare and administer IV contrast
according to departmental protocols and record contrast type and
amount on request.
Evaluate the technical quality of images and consult with a
Radiologist if needed. Recognize abnormal anatomy and process any
additional, reconstructed images, and/or measurements as
instructed.
Perform basic patient care functions and inform appropriate nursing
personnel of any changes in the patient's condition. Initiate life
support measures for patients when necessary and assist in "code
blue " procedures during medical emergencies.
Perform MRI scanning and assist Physicians/PA during invasive
procedures. Practice proper sterile technique in the preparation of
necessary supplies and perform all invasive procedures in
accordance with bloodborne pathogens, isolation, and infection
control policies and procedures.
Authorized to obtain medication or contrast material as directed
for administration by a licensed practitioner. Practice the
principle of radiation safety for self, employees, patients, and
family members, and follow appropriate radiation safety
standards.
Report malfunctioning equipment to the department
director/manager/supervisor and clinical engineering/radiology
engineer. Maintain knowledge and skills required to work safely in
an environment that can create significant exposure to bloodborne
pathogens and infectious diseases.
Adhere to hospital fire and safety procedures, attend all
in-service classes, and complete all required safety modules.
Operate the radiology computer system to include entering orders
and charging procedures/supplies. Document contrast administration
in the MAR.
Maintain assigned work area in a neat and orderly fashion. Keep the
area completely stocked and clean all work areas to promote
cleanliness in the workplace. Assist other medical personnel, such
as anesthesia, when performing exams or services in conjunction
with an MRI scan.
Maintain knowledge of all MRI safety requirements for both staff
and patients while in and around magnetic fields.
Skills
Physical Requirements: Requires moderate to heavy physical efforts
in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies. Occasional
standing, walking, and sitting during normal operation. Frequently
may be required to stretch, bend, twist, squat, or kneel in the
daily operation of the MRI department. May be exposed to various
physical conditions throughout the day such as walking on hard
surfaces, climbing stairs, being near moving equipment. Required to
use radiation safety guidelines to prevent exposure to ionizing
radiation.
Education
Graduate of an accredited two-year AMA approved program in
Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology or active enrollment in
an ARMRIT or ARRT registry eligible program required. ARRT (MR)
required. BLS (AHA or ARC) required.
Additional Information
Schedule: Mon, Tue, Thur, Fri 8am - 6:30pm - 10 hours shift
Weekend Program Differential: $8.00 per hour for hours worked in
the weekend program time period. (Friday 7 a.m. - Monday 7:30
a.m.)
Bonuses: Up to $15k sign-on and $5k relocation bonuses offered!
Certification/Licensure/Experience Requirements: ARRT (R)(MR) and
BLS Required
Job Assignment Details: Level III trauma hospital. High volume ED,
IP, OP, experience with Siemens 3T, Client 1.5T, and EPIC.
