Job SummaryThe CT Technologist I performs procedures in
accordance with departmental protocols and standards. This position
requires a high level of proficiency in operating CT Scanners and
associated equipment, including scanner, post-processing
stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment,
patient transport, and patient monitoring equipment.Key
Responsibilities
- Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient,
referring and questioning orders to the Radiologist as necessary,
and contacting the ordering provider when discrepancies arise.
- Properly identifies and assists patients, offering a brief
explanation of the procedures and preparing them for the exam with
a full explanation and documentation on appropriate
worksheets.
- Interviews patients for a complete medical history, reviews
EMR's to obtain pertinent clinical history, and records medical
history on requisitions.
- Assumes responsibility for the exam from beginning to
completion, preparing and administering IV contrast according to
departmental protocols, and recording contrast type and amount as
required.
- Evaluates technical quality of images, consults with a
Radiologist if necessary, and recognizes abnormal anatomy,
processing additional images and measurements as instructed.
- Performs basic patient care functions, informs nursing
personnel of changes in the patient's condition, and initiates life
support measures when necessary.
- Assists in code blue procedures and performs CT scanning,
practicing proper sterile technique in the preparation of necessary
supplies.RequirementsGraduate of an accredited two-year AMA program
in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology is required. ARRT
certification in Radiology, or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine, and
advanced registry from the ARRT in CT scanning within one year of
hire are also required, in addition to current CPR
certification.This position requires moderate to heavy physical
efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies,
with occasional standing, walking, and sitting during normal
operation. The ability to stretch, bend, twist, squat, or kneel in
the daily operation of the CT department is also required, as well
as adherence to radiation safety guidelines to prevent exposure to
ionizing radiation.
